Where Does the Hype Come From?
Our Mission
Mammutmarsch means adventure. Mammutmarsch means breaking limits. We have only one mission: We want to show you that you can achieve anything. No matter how much it hurts, no matter how impossible something seems — we will show you that you can do it!
We want to give you one of the greatest adventures of your life in a safe environment. And at the same time present you with perhaps the greatest challenge. Mammutmarsch means 100 kilometres on foot in 24 hours (and by now we also put you through the paces on the 30 and 55 KM distances)!
I only did this to show you that everything is possible in life!

The Story
The History of Extreme Hiking in Germany
The Original Mammutmarsch
In 2006, Philipp and Bastian set out on their own to hike 100 kilometres. Blisters, pain, curses and tears. Even back then, everything was just like today. In exactly 24 hours, the two reached the 100-kilometre mark.
The Large-Scale Event
Suddenly we were a large-scale event. Even if it wasn't a stadium yet, we had to start at a football pitch in Schöneweide for the first time. Today we wonder how we pulled off the whole event back then with just over ten helpers.
The Boom
Today there are other events too, some with original concepts. We are proud to have sparked a genuine hiking boom. Ten years ago, hiking was uncool and dusty. Today, large groups set out to get fitter and have a great time together.
The First Website
It was a cold evening in a Berlin bar. Why don't we do another Mammutmarsch? Definitely! Overnight, our first website was up. And indeed we received registrations — so on march day we had to organise checkpoints and couldn't even hike ourselves.
The Cancellation
The toughest decision in our history so far. Due to very cold temperatures, we had to call off the march in the night. In hindsight, the cancellation was a blessing — today we place much greater value on participant preparation, route safety and seamless exit options.
“You can give up as many times as you like as long as your feet keep moving.”
